Basti (yogic enema)
Technique I: Jala Basti (yogic enema with water)
Stand in pure water up to the navel. A flowing river is an ideal place. Lean forward and place the hands on the knees. Expand the anal sphincter muscles and simultaneously perform uddiyana bandha and nauli in such a way that water is drawn up into the bowels.
Hold the water in the bowels for some time and then expel it through the anus.
Benefits: The colon is cleaned and purified. Old stool is removed and gas expelled. Advanced practitioners of pranayama use basti to cool down the abdominal heat produced by their practices.
Practice note: This technique should be learned under expert guidance. A short tube may be inserted into the anus by beginners to make the practice easier.
Variation: Benefits of basti may also be obtained by sitting in cool, fresh water up to the navel and performing ashwini mudra.
Note: The word basti, also widely written as vasti or wasti, is a general term pertaining to the lower abdomen, belly, pelvis and bladder. The technique is also known as basti karma, karma
meaning 'process' or 'technique'.
Because the above technique can be difficult, here we are going to give, an easier way .
Get an enema bag (you can buy it in a pharmacy or online). Once is assembled fill it with warm water and put 1 tea spoon with salt in it. Hang the bag in about 3-4 feet from the floor, place a blanket or towel on the floor and lie on your back, bend the legs so the feet are 2 feet from the buttocks. Lubricate the nozzle and gentle insert it in the anus, once you feel that is deep enough open the water in which the water will start running into the colon. If you feel pressure you can stop the water for a little bit and massage the stomach, and once the pressure is gone let the water run until the whole colon is filled.
Stand up and massage the stomach again for a little bit and then go to the toilet to release it. Repeat the same procedure a few times until you are satisfied with the results. In the beginning you can feel a little uncomfortable, bur after a few times you will get use to it.
Here what is said in the following Sanskrit verse;
“This exercises completely eradicates such maladies as abnormal growth in the abdomen, spleen, liver, the disease of the eyes, the twenty-five kinds of urethral irregularities, dyspepsia, constipation, piles, fistula, pimples boils acidity, irregularities of the bowels, etc”
Besides douching, the exercise also tones up the lower segment of the gut which is quite helpful in restoring its sensitivity and responsiveness. One of the most frequent causes of constipation is the reduction in the sensitivity of this region, so that it fails to respond to the stimulus of distention.
You can try different liquids for enemas, for example we found Coffee Enema has great benefits: You can read and see the instruction How to do it by clicking HERE……
